An award-winning educator and journalist, Michael Maser is also a former exploration geologist and gold prospector who worked in British Columbia, the Yukon and California as well as the Canadian Shield. In his prospecting days he shared the company of some of the most notorious scallywags, colourful characters and deluded individuals to walk the earth.
Maser’s Great-Grandfather, Alexander Lyon, abandoned his family in Scotland to trek to the Klondike gold fields in 1898. He never discovered gold but he did found the town of ‘Hardy Bay’ (now Port Hardy) on the northern end of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in 1901, along with his wife Sarah Hunt (she of the renowned Hunt family [George, Henry, Calvin, Richard, Tony, etc.] who has contributed so much to First Nations culture in British Columbia
Gold Mad is Michael’s first novel though he has been a contributing education and resource-oriented journalist for many years to the Georgia Straight, Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Courier, Ottawa Citizen, Adbusters, BC Business and Business in Vancouver, and other media.
Maser lives with his wife in the town of Gibsons, on the Pacific coast, north of Vancouver BC.
